Its creation is attributed to Jos\u00e9 Gomes de S\u00e1, a 19th century cod merchant. The story goes that, as a tribute to his mother, he decided to create a dish that combined the flavours of cod, potatoes, onions and olives.<\/span>\n<p>The recipe quickly became popular, becoming an icon of Portuguese gastronomy.
